Doctor Frankenstein is a unique monster appearing in SLASH'EM.

Generation

Doctor Frankenstein (along with his monster) generates in his eponymous lab found off a second up staircase in Gehennom. He is guaranteed to carry a lab coat, spellbook of polymorph, and wand of polymorph.

Description

Doctor Frankenstein is basically a much stronger quantum mechanic: he sports a moderate-strength weapon attack in addition to the teleporting claw attack, and has far superior AC. Unlike a quantum mechanic, his corpse will not cause the player to lose or gain intrinsic speed; instead it is guaranteed to cause teleportitis. Despite what one might expect, his corpse is not considered human for the purposes of sacrifice or cannibalism.

Strategy

Somewhat like the SLASH'EM's Vlad the Impaler, Doctor Frankenstein is quite weak for the part of the game in which one meets him. He does a non-threatening amount of physical damage, and his special attack is merely an annoyance, one which is mostly nullified by magic cancellation anyway. He is somewhat hard to hit, but no more so than a disenchanter. Make sure you have magic resistance in his lab: the genetic engineers that surround him can polymorph you otherwise.

Doctor Frankenstein may be worth killing for his lab coat, if you don't already have one. The presence of ultra-dangerous acidic monsters such as giant shoggoths makes acid resistance a worthwhile property in SLASH'EM's endgame, and a lab coat is one of two possible sources of the property (the other being yellow dragon scale mail).
