In Nethack game terms, Emergency is a classification applied to the following healing spells: healing, cure blindness, cure sickness, extra healing and restore ability. It is also applied to the clerical spell remove curse.


Its effect is to alter the chance of spell failure. (Fail rates are calculated out of twenty)

A Healer gains a minus 3 chance of spell failure.

Knights, Monks, Priests and Valkyries gain a minus 2 chance of spell failure.

A Tourist suffers a plus 1 chance of spell failure.

A Ranger suffers a plus 2 chance of spell failure.

All other roles are unaffected.
