I've stumbled on two wands of wishing in the shop (price id'd and then formally id'd with scrolls as wishing 0:2 and 0:3). Now that's a lot of wishes and I'm thinking that it would be better to spend then sooner rather than dyding with unused wishes. Also I haven't sacrificed yet so I can reliably score a couple of artifacts. I'm thinking the best idea is to use them up now and get well equipped to hopefully avoid some YASD. This means getting Reflection, Magic Resistance and some weaponry So given I can have 11 wished if I included scrools of charging how about:

1. 2 Blessed Scrolls of charging
2. Blessed Eyes of the Overworld (magic resistance in an otherwise unused slot)
3. Blessed +2 Silver Dragon Scale Mail
4. Bleesed +2 Magicbane
7. Blessed +2 rustproof Frostbrand (not 100% chance should I ask for this before the Eyes?
5. Blessed rustproof +2 gauntlets of power
6. Blessed fireproof +2 pair of speed boots
So I'd have 4 left
8. 2 Blessed scrolls of genocide? (Mind Flayers and Liches)
9. Blessed Tinning kit? (better get the intrinsics sorted early) or Bag of Holding
10 Saved

Given that there is the wand in the castle to add another few later.

I haven't ascended yet and my best game got down to Orcustown before I wandered back up and got YASD while polypiling. Hence I'd like to give myself the best possible chance.— Preceding unsigned comment added by VeryRisky (talkcontribs)

What is your role? As a wizard you should not wish for Magicbane, for example. Also, wishing for Frost Brand is probably a bad idea; there are better artifact weapons, and you can probably sacrifice for Frost Brand anyway. Additionally, there's no real need to wish for an artifact weapon. Also beware artifact blast when wishing. Also, don't wish for gauntlets of power - no need to at all. Also don't wish for genocide scrolls - wait until you can find and ID them, then wish for a magic marker. (If you're in real danger at any point, you still have enough wishes to wish up an emergency genocide.)
The Eyes of the Overworld are great and fun, though I'd prefer a cloak of magic resistance personally, especially because there's no artifact blast - plus, it provides MC3, which the Eyes don't. On the topic of reflection, silver dragon scale mail is great for that (you might want to check Sokoban for its possible amulet of reflection first, but given that you're swimming in wishes…).
Bag of holding - only if you don't find one in Sokoban, obviously. Similar for tinning kits; check the Mines first. (Even then it might not be that great a wish, though.)
IIRC your overall AC will probably be higher if wishing for everything as +3 - don't trust me on that, though. Also, you will want your armor greased and fixed. --Bcode (talk) 14:55, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
If you're going to artiwish and you aren't a wizard, you might as well wish for the Eye of the Aethiopica instead of the Eyes of the Overworld. No, it doesn't have the fun astral vision component, but increased PP regeneration, branchporting and half spell damage are worth astral vision several times over.
If you are a wizard, then you don't need Magicbane, and already having a cloak of magic resistance, the Eyes are something of a waste of an artifact wish.
Another thing you should probably wish for is a ring of slow digestion: You'd be surprised how little food the dungeon can sometimes throw at you in the early levels, and it's nice to be able to reserve your prayers exclusively for times when you're actually in danger, as opposed to just needing food. Just mind your satiation level and make sure you take the ring off once you hit Satiated, so as to not abuse Dexterity and risk choking.
Lastly, you don't have 11 wishes, you have 13. After you exhaust those two wands, you can wrest the last charge from them. This is best done by putting yourself in a safe place (a burned Elbereth square works well), setting the drained wand to 'z', and holding that key down. The chance is 1/121 per turn so you'll generally get it in under 200 or so. So definitely add slow digestion to the wish list, and maybe also a ring of free action or a ring of conflict. -Ion frigate (talk) 15:26, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
