Frankenstein's Monster is a unique monster that appears in SLASH'EM.

Generation

Frankenstein's Monster appears in Frankenstein's Lab, which is a branch located off a second up staircase in Gehennom, similar to Vlad's Tower. Unlike Doctor Frankenstein, he does not generate in a fixed location, but is instead found wandering the maze surrounding the lab. As he is mindless, locating him can occasionally be difficult.

Description

Frankenstein's Monster is effectively a much stronger flesh golem: he hits considerably harder, while having a much higher base level, far better AC, and huge hit point reserve at 400 HP.

Unlike other golems, but in keeping with his source material, Frankenstein's Monster is marked as undead. Also in keeping with his source material, Frankenstein's Monster does not resist fire, unlike ordinary flesh golems His corpse will be generated already 100 turns old[1], in a similar manner to a zombie or mummy. It is not, however, considered to be human for the purposes of cannibalism.

Strategy

While he has an impressive reserve of HP and good AC, Frankenstein's Monster is unlikely to be a huge threat by the time he is encountered: his melee attacks hit only moderately hard, he has no special abilities, and is fairly slow.

A potion of monster detection can speed up the process of finding Frankenstein's Monster, for players who are determined to kill him. While his corpse is generally unsuitable for consumption without using a tinning kit, it has a 100% chance of trying to grant one of poison, sleep, cold, or shock resistance.

Encyclopedia Entry

With an anxiety that almost amounted to agony, I collected
the instruments of life around me, that I might infuse a spark
of being into the lifeless thing that lay at my feet. It was
already one in the morning; the rain pattered dismally against
the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out, when, by the
glimmer of the half-extinguished light, I saw the dull yellow
eye of the creature open; it breathed hard, and a convulsive
motion agitated its limbs.

How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how
delineate the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I
had endeavoured to form? His limbs were in proportion, and I
had selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful!--Great God!
His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and
arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and
flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances
only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that
seemed almost of the same colour as the dun white sockets in
which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight
black lips.
