An amulet versus stone is a type of amulet that appears in SLASH'EM, SlashTHEM and Hack'EM. It grants limited protection from petrification.

Generation

There is an amulet versus stone in Grund's Stronghold. This amulet is guaranteed to be generated in SLASH'EM and SlashTHEM; in Hack'EM, there is only a 13 chance of the amulet generating.

Description

An amulet versus stone prevents stoning from ending your game, with the method depending on the variant.

SLASH'EM

In SLASH'EM, the amulet works much like an amulet of life saving: If you are turned to stone while wearing the amulet, it will reanimate you and change in beatitude (i.e., blessed to uncursed or uncursed to cursed) rather than vanishing.

Hack'EM

In Hack'EM, the amulet versus stone instead provides stoning resistance while worn, mirroring the secondary protection of wearing yellow dragon-scaled armor. Putting on the amulet while oyu are turning to stone will abort the stoning process.[1][2]

Strategy

In SLASH'EM and SlashTHEM, the same amulet versus stone can save your life multiple times due to how it functions, especially with a supply of holy water to uncurse or bless it. While generally inferior to an amulet of life saving, SLASH'EM's stronger stoning monsters make it a good item to have on hand if a basilisk blocks off your escape route or an asphynx attacks from under a chest you were trying to loot. If you have another source of reflection and drain resistance and have not found an amulet of life saving, the amulet versus stone is probably your next best guard against YASD.

In Hack'EM, wearing the amulet will protect you thoroughly from stoning, making it a viable option over an amulet of reflection for dealing with boss monsters such as Medusa.
