| Reference | UnNetHack, commit 1242d2da - src/monst.c, line 1084 |
A chillbug, x, is a type of monster that appears in UnNetHack. The chillbug is a fantastic insect that is capable of flying, and chillbugs will alternate between attacking en masse and retreating to quickly regenerate HP.
A chillbug has two strong bite attacks that deal physical damage, and possesses poison resistance, cold resistance and acid resistance.
Chillbugs are poisonous to consume.
Generation
Randomly-generated chillbugs are created as hostile, and are normally only generated in Sheol, where they can appear uncommonly in large groups.
Four chillbugs each are placed on specific squares of the second-to-last level of Sheol, where they are stationed in opposite wings beyond the room with the throne during level creation.
Strategy
Chillbugs can hit moderately hard, but by the time you reach Sheol they should be manageable. Just try not to get surrounded by the groups that they generate in.
History
The chillbug first appears in UnNetHack version 5.1.0 via commit 10a99be6, where it is initially known as the blinker shortly before being renamed to the chillbug.
Encyclopedia entry
Chillbugs are insects that are native residents of Sheol. They are said to be composed of liquid ice. Their ability to quickly regenerate has puzzled many humans and non-humans alike.
Chillbugs are cool.
