Any katana generated on the ground has a base 120 chance of being made into an artifact, and may be Kiku-ichimonji if it has not yet generated.

Kiku-ichimonji is the first sacrifice gift for Samurai, and any lawful hero may receive Kiku-ichimonji through sacrifice.

Description

In SlashTHEM, Kiku-ichimonji has +4 to-hit and +12 damage bonuses versus all monsters. In Hack'EM, this is changed to +1d4 to-hit and +1d12 damage.

Origin

"Kiku-ichimonji" (菊一文字, lit. "chrysanthemum and ichi character") is a collective name given to the Japanese swords made by the thirteen swordsmiths who were in attendance to the emperor Go-Toba in 1208. The swordsmiths normally inscribed the character ichi (一, "one") as their signature, and were given further received permission to append the Imperial Chrysanthemum crest (菊, kiku). The artifact is also inspired by the portrayal of Kiku-ichimonji in the Final Fantasy series, where it appears as a katana of varying power levels.
