Generation
Spellbooks of enchant weapon are incredibly rare, making up 1⁄200 (0.5%) of all randomly generated spellbooks. General stores, second-hand bookstores and rare books shops can sell spellbooks of enchant armor.
Writing a spellbook of enchant armor with a magic marker takes up 35 to 69 charges.
Description
When cast, the spell has a chance of acting as an uncursed scroll of enchant armor that is based on skill level:[1][2] 1⁄14 at Unskilled, 1⁄12 at Basic, 1⁄10 at Skilled, and 1⁄8 at Expert. If successful, it increases the enchantment of a random worn piece of armor by 1[3]—the outermost layer of armor worn on the torso (i.e. cloak, body armor or shirt) chosen first, followed by a 1⁄4 chance per slot of swapping targets to worn armor in another slot before finalizing its target.[4]
Strategy
Like the spellbook of enchant weapon, this spell is generally not at all useful for its level: most non-casting roles can expect to have to cast the spell dozens of time before even getting one point of enchantment, inducing a large amount of spell hunger and using up several turns in the process. The spell also enchants armor at random as with the scroll, requiring you to remove all other armor beyond the target item before each cast - at minimum, you will also have to remove any armor that is already at its safe maximum or risk having it evaporate.
Wizards might use it to save a few charges off their magic markers, although by the time they can cast the spell they are likely to have a good deal of their ascension kit together and enchanted already. Since the spell cannot give the effect of a blessed scroll, an actual scroll will generally be required for the final enchantment anyway.
