A static blob, b, is a type of monster that appears in SLASH'EM, SlashTHEM and Hack'EM. The static blob is a blob that has an affinity to electricity.
A static blob has a touch attack and a passive attack that both inflict shock damage, which can destroy rings and wands in the victim's inventory. Static blobs possess poison resistance, sleep resistance and shock resistance.
Eating a static blob corpse or tin has a 2⁄5 chance each of conveying poison resistance or shock resistance.
Generation
Randomly generated static blobs are always created hostile, and will not notmally generate in Gehennom.
Strategy
The static blobs' passive shock attack is surprisingly manageable for a non-shock resistant hero: it merely does a fixed 3d4 damage, rather than a monster level-dependent amount like blue jellies or energy vortices. Even so, most heroes should exercise caution around them: any errant shock can destroy wands in their inventory, and in SLASH'EM and SlashTHEM this causes them to explode as if they had been applied, which can prove far more devastating even if it does not kill the hero outright.
Most characters that approach a static blob wisely will be able to take them down without issue, and their corpses are an excellent vegan source of shock resistance (and poison resistance)—Monks in SLASH'EM and SlashTHEM may especially find their corpses useful.
