- This article is about the monster in SlashTHEM. For the dragons in UnNetHack and DynaHack that can be randomized to appear as a "stone dragon", see Dragon (UnNetHack).
A stone dragon, D, is a type of monster that appears in SlashTHEM. It is an adult dragon associated with stone. Like all dragons, stone dragons are strong, carnivorous, oviparous, thick-skinned, can see invisible, and are capable of flight - they will also seek out gold, gems and magical items to pick up. Stone dragons are also lithivores and will eat rocks, gems and other stone items they come across.
Stone dragons have a magic missile breath weapon, a strong bite attack, a lashing attack, and a claw attack. A stone dragon possesses stoning resistance, as well as magic resistance due to their magic missile breath, and hits as a +3 weapon.
Generation
Randomly generated stone dragons are always created hostile. A baby stone dragon can grow up into a stone dragon.
Heroes and monsters that polymorph while wearing stone dragon scales or stone dragon scale mail will turn into stone dragons.
Stone dragons may appear among the hostile D generated in throne rooms, and can also appear among the monsters randomly generated by looting a throne while confused and carrying gold (provided there is no chest on the level). Stone dragons may also appear in dragon lairs and the Wyrm Caves.
Stone dragons have a 1⁄3 chance of dropping a set of uncursed +0 stone dragon scales upon death unless disintegrated, and the chance is reduced to 1⁄20 if the dragon was revived.
