The elven arrow is a type of [arrow]] for use with a bow that appears in NetHack. It appears as a runed arrow when unidentified. Elven arrows are wooden and susceptible to rotting and burning attacks.
Elven arrows gain +1 multishot and a +1 damage bonus when fired by an elven player from an elven bow.[1]
Generation
In addition to random generation, elven arrows often appear in the starting inventory of bow-wielding elven monsters.
Strategy
Elven arrows are generally the weapon of choice for most bow users, especially when playing as an elf - they are in high relative abundance with the number of elven creatures that generate, and deal the most consistent damage among arrows. The only character that would potentially benefit from another arrow type would be any orcish player and any Samurai.
SLASH'EM
In SLASH'EM, an non-cursed elven arrow has a 1 in 3 chance of adding an additional shot to the multishot roll - a player that would normally only shoot 1 arrow will shoot d2 arrows 33% of the time, a player that would normally shoot d2 arrows will shoot d3 arrows 33% of the time, etc.[2] This bonus does not apply to dark elven arrows.
