The Elvenking, @, is a monster in NetHack. It is the strongest of the elves; as with all elves, their corpses have a chance of granting intrinsic sleep resistance, and they can be generated with any type of elven equipment, which they will use.
In addition to the normal equipment and the usual chance for offensive and defensive items )e. g. a [[wand of death]), they can be generated with a pick-axe (especially on special levels) and, very rarely, a crystal ball.
Outside of normal generation, Elvenkings can be found in throne rooms much deeper in the main branch of the dungeon, and is also eligible for the summon nasties monster spell; this can result in some confusion if done by the Wizard of Yendor, as they share the glyph. In addition, there is a guaranteed Elvenking with a pick-axe on the Plane of Earth.
