An ettin zombie, Z, is a type of monster that appears in NetHack. It is one of a few zombies that you may encounter before seeing any of their living counterparts, and is the second strongest among zombies (but not the zombie monster class). An ettin zombie has two claw attacks, and can follow you to other levels if it is adjacent.
Generation
Randomly generated ettin zombies are always hostile.
An ettin zombie will leave an aged ettin corpse upon death.
Strategy
While still slower than even a burdened hero, ettin zombies are tied for the fastest among zombies with the giant zombie. Combined with their two claw attacks, ettin zombies can pose a significant threat to underprepared or under-armored characters, and are reliably encountered well before the player sees any live ettins.
History
The ettin zombie first appears in NetHack 3.0.0, where most of the various zombies are first distinguished from each other.
Variants
SLASH'EM
In SLASH'EM, ettin zombies can be created by using the raise zombies technique while adjacent to the corpse of an ettin.
