Giants are a category of monsters in NetHack. All types of giants are represented by the symbol H, which is shared by titans, ettins, and minotaurs. All giants can pick up and throw boulders, collect gems, and break down doors, and their corpses provide a strength bonus when eaten (as well as other intrinsic depending on the species). Giant mummies and giant zombies are not able to walk over boulders. Giants have a 50% chance of being created with a boulder.

The giant, H, is also a monster which normally appears only in corpse form by killing a giant zombie or giant mummy.

Strategy

Giants are vulnerable to the artifact Giantslayer, with a 1d5 bonus for your player to-hit and causing double damage.

Giants are considered kebabable, able to be skewered, and you receive a +2 to-hit bonus when using a weapon that uses the spear skill.

Eating giants

Eating the corpse of any giant (including Cyclops and Lord Surtur) or a tin of any kind of giant meat has a 50% chance of increasing your strength by the same amount as a non-cursed tin of spinach.[1] However, giant corpses are very nutritious, so you may not actually be able to eat as many as you'd like to before they spoil without the risk of choking. A tinning kit is highly recommended, and will additionally make the corpses of giant zombies and mummies safe as well. Unlike spinach, tins of giant meat provide a strength increase even if cursed.

SLASH'EM

In SLASH'EM, there is only a 25% chance that the strength gain will occur when eating giant meat.[2] This does not affect the chance of gaining any other intrinsics from the corpse.

You can encounter live "plain" giants in SLASH'EM. Not just mummies and zombies.

NetHack Fourk

In NetHack Fourk, giants are a playable race. Giants can be barbarians, cavemen, or rangers. They can pick up and throw boulders, which makes it very easy for them to move past a boulder in a corridor. Their size prevents them from wearing most normal armor. They move at half speed and (aside from strength) has significantly lower attribute caps.

Encyclopedia entry

Giants have always walked the earth, though they are rare in
these times. They range in size from little over nine feet
to a towering twenty feet or more. The larger ones use huge
boulders as weapons, hurling them over large distances. All
types of giants share a love for men - roasted, boiled, or
fried. Their table manners are legendary.
