Jumbo the Elephant is a unique SLASH'EM monster. He only appears in real zoos, and he is the only unique monster without his own level.
Generation
Owing to the way he is generated, Jumbo will almost never be found in a normal game. Specifically, he is generated in a real zoo if rn2(60) + rn2(3*level difficulty) > 175[1]. This is only possible at level 39 or higher, and even then, the probability will never be greater than 1/10 or so for the deepest possible zoo, and considerably less for shallower ones.
As a pet
Given his high base level, damage, and zero MR, Jumbo could be a nice pet during middle game if you can spare a scroll of taming or a charm monster spell. Unfortunately, he lacks any resistance other than stoning resistance and doesn't have any to-hit bonus, so he still has difficulty dealing with monsters needing +x weapon to hit, such as statue gargoyles, vampires and shadow wolves. Since he is not fast, he is generally inferior as a steed when compared to the ki-rin and Pegasus.
