A partisan is a type of weapon that appears in NetHack. It is a two-handed polearm that is made of iron, and appears as a vulgar polearm when unidentified.

Generation
In addition to random generation, general shops and antique weapons outlets can sell partisans.
Watchmen and soldiers may be generated with a partisan.[1] Trolls have an effective 1⁄8 chance of being generated with a partisan.[2]
Strategy
The partisan has the lowest average damage against small monsters of all polearms, being tied with the fauchard and glaive. Its average damage against large monsters is also lacking among polearms: the fauchard is at least notably lighter in weight for the same damage, while the glaive is only slightly less heavy but deals better damage versus large monsters.

Variants
EvilHack
In EvilHack, a partisan can be created at a forge by combining a broadsword and a spear. This also applies to Hack'EM.
SlashTHEM
In SlashTHEM, troll characters that are not Convicts have a 1⁄4 chance of generating with a partisan as their starting polearm.
