This is one of the new possible maps for Sokoban Level 1 in SLASH'EM, UnNetHack, SpliceHack-Rewrite, DynaHack and EvilHack.

In UnNetHack, as with all Sokoban levels, this level may be flipped horizontally or vertically. In most variants, this floor has 10 boulders and pits, leaving no spare boulders - in SLASH'EM, there is an extra boulder lying next to the lava pit.

The lava near the end of the first corridor can not only spell a very quick end to a promising character, but careless movement can also result in losing boulders and forcing you to take a potential Luck penalty by using up a scroll of earth.

----------------- 0 boulder
|.......|...--??| ^ pit
|.-----.|...0...| > starting position/downstairs
|.---.0.|...0...| < upstairs
|.....00....--0.| ? scroll of earth
|>.....--...||..| # iron bars
|#####-------|.-| } lava

Strategy

The following solution may not be very fast or organized. Improvements welcome. Like all Sokoban levels it can be solved without making any boulders 'stick'.

All boulders are replaced by letters so they can be referred to. Moving the boulders is shortened to r for right, l for left, u for up, d for down. An asterisk is used to denote the last move filled a pit (and thus removed the boulder from the game). So "N ddrr*" means move boulder N two times down and two times to the right into a pit.

First, clear a path to the bottom-right chamber, picking up the scrolls of earth on the way:

----------------- B r
|.......|...--??| D u
|.-----.|...A...| E rrr
|.---.B.|...C...| A rr
|.....DE....--F.| G dd
|@.....--...||..|
|#####-------|.-|
|.....^^^^^<|-G.|
|.....-------...|
|..}..^^^^^.HI..|
|.....-------.J.|
|.....|     |...|
-------     -----

Solve the nearest five boulders:

----------------- I d
|.......|...--..| H ll*
|.-----.|.....A.| G llll l*
|.---.DB|...C...| J ulll lll*
|.........E.--F.| I ulll lll*
|>.....--...||..| F dddd dlll llll l*
|#####-------|.-|
|.....^^^^^<|-..|
|.....-------.@.|
|..}..^^^^^.HIG.|
|.....-------.J.|
|.....|     |...|
-------     -----

Beware the lava as you push in the next three boulders:

----------------- A dddd dddl llll llll luur r*
|.......|...--..| C rrdd dddd llll llll lluu rrr*
|.-----.|.....A.| E urrr rddd dddl llll llll luur rrr*
|.---.DB|...C...|
|.........E.--..|
|>.....--...||..|
|#####-------|.-|
|.....^^^^^<|-..|
|.....-------...|
|..}...@........|
|.....-------...|
|.....|     |...|
-------     -----

Solve the last two boulders:

----------------- B drrr rurr rddd dddl llll llll luur rrrr*
|.......|...--..| D rdrr rrur rrdd dddd llll llll lluu rrrr rr*
|.-----.|.......|
|.---.DB|.......|
|...........--..|
|>.....--...||..|
|#####-------|.-|
|......@.^^<|-..|
|.....-------...|
|..}............|
|.....-------...|
|.....|     |...|
-------     -----

The level is now complete:

-----------------
|.......|...--..|
|.-----.|.......|
|.---...|.......|
|...........--..|
|>.....--...||..|
|#####-------|.-|
|........@.<|-..|
|.....-------...|
|..}............|
|.....-------...|
|.....|     |...|
-------     -----

Next level

UnNetHack's Sokoban branch has only three levels per game, collapsing the 'second' levels into the first floor, so the first level leads straight to the pool of third levels:
