In SLASH'EM and SlashTHEM, the spellbook of enchant armor can be read to learn the spell of enchant armor spell. It is a level 7 enchantment spell, and the spellbook takes roughly 56 turns to read if successfully learning the spell.
Description
When cast, the spell has a chance of acting as an uncursed scroll of enchant armor that is based on skill level: 1 in 14 at Unskilled, 1 in 12 at Basic, 1 in 10 at Skilled, and 1 in 8 at Expert.
Strategy
Like the spellbook of enchant weapon, this spell is generally not that useful for its level: most non-casting roles can expect to have to cast the spell dozens of time before even getting one point of enchantment, inducing a large amount of spell hunger and using up several turns in the process. The spell also enchants armor at random as with the scroll, requiring you to remove all other armor beyond the target item before each cast - at minimum, you will also have to remove any armor that is already at its safe maximum or risk having it evaporate.
Wizards might use it to save a few charges off their magic markers, although by the time they can cast the spell they are likely to have a good deal of their ascension kit together and enchanted already. Since the spell cannot give the effect of a blessed scroll, an actual scroll will generally be required for the final enchantment anyway.
However, this spell is probably useful for players attempting conducts.
