Reference | EvilHack commit b543c16 - src/monst.c, line 4075 |
An elder ent, #, is a type of monster that appears in EvilHack. The elder ent is a type of male tree-like creature that is a stronger variant of the ent with all of the same traits, and is a lord to his kind. Druids that reach experience level 20 can wildshape themselves into the form of an elder ent.
An elder ent has a strong claw attack and a second more powerful claw attack capable of inflicting knockback, and possesses poison resistance, sleep resistance, immunity to sickness, and a vulnerability to fire. Elder ents subjected to stoning will transform into petrified ents.
Generation
Randomly generated elder ents may be created as peaceful towards neutral heroes, and are always peaceful towards Druids, Rangers and non-Infidel elven heroes. An ent can grow up into an elder ent.
An elder ent leaves behind a dead tree upon death, unless they are standing in a corridor.
Strategy
Elder ents have quite strong melee attacks, but are very slow. A hero invested in keeping a pet ent long-term will want to consider turning any tame elder ents they have into petrified ents, which are slightly slower but have the best AC and strongest attacks among ents.
Encyclopedia entry
Pippin, though still amazed, no longer felt afraid. Under those
eyes he felt a curious suspense, but not fear. 'Please,' he said,
'who are you? And what are you?'
A queer look came into the old eyes, a kind of wariness; the deep
wells were covered over. 'Hrum, now,' answered the voice; 'well,
I am an Ent, or that's what they call me. Yes, Ent is the word.
The Ent, I am, you might say, in your manner of speaking.
Fangorn is my name according to some, Treebeard others make it.
Treebeard will do.'
