Hobbit (monster attribute)

From NetHackWiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Hobbit is a monster attribute in some variants of NetHack that indicates when a monster should be considered a hobbit.

As NetHack itself only has the singular hobbit monster, it has no need for the monster attribute flag. In the variants that it appears in, the hobbit attribute generally determines what monsters are the same race for purposes of monster behavior, polymorph, cannibalism and sacrifice.

SLASH'EM

In SLASH'EM, the hobbit monster is the only one encountered that possesses the M2_HOBBIT monster attribute flag, and the monster is used to represent hobbit heroes—two other monsters, Bilbo Baggins and the proudfoot, are carried over from previous versions and ancestors of SLASH'EM and are currently defunct. Unlike other (usually later) variants, hobbits lack distinct undead forms.

Hobbit monsters will always generate as peaceful for a hobbit hero, while they always generate as hostile towards gnome, orc and vampire heroes.

EvilHack

In EvilHack, hobbit monsters are denoted with the MH_HOBBIT flag, and have their own undead forms.

Nazgul will grudge hobbit monsters and vice versa.
