Itlachiayaque is the Archeologist quest artifact in xNetHack, which adapts the artifact from L's Itlachiayaque Patch against NetHack 3.4.3. It is the prize for completing the Archeologist quest, and is lawful for generation purposes. Its base item type is a shield of reflection made of gold.
Generation
For Archeologists, Schliemann is always generated with the blessed +1 Itlachiayaque.
Description
Itlachiayaque confers warning and fire resistance while carried, and confers reflection while worn as normal - an Archeologist wearing Itlachiayaque does not sustain any spellcasting penalty from the shield. Invoking Itlachiayaque prompts the player to choose from two different effects:
- A mass of poison clouds is generated, with the cloud centered on a non-Archeologist character, while an Archeologist can select the square to center the cloud on as with a scroll of stinking cloud. Of note is that Schliemann is capable of applying this ability himself if he possesses Itlachiayaque.
- You can gaze into the surface to look for an object, monster, or furniture symbol as with a crystal ball, using a similar roll versus intelligence: d8 if you are an Archeologist and d16 for any other role.

Tezcatlipoca (Fiery Mirror) was undoubtedly the Jupiter of the
Nahua pantheon. He carried a mirror or shield [ Itlachiayaque ],
from which he took his name, and in which he was supposed to see
reflected the actions and deeds of mankind. The evolution of this
god from the status of a spirit of wind or air to that of the
supreme deity of the Aztec people presents many points of deep
interest to students of mythology.
