Description
Applying a chikage will coat it in blood, which may increase a character's blood impurity. While bloodied, a chikage's base material is changed to hemargyos, and its color is set to red; it has its base damage die doubled and adds XL⁄3 damage and 1⁄2 of the character's sum impurity to all attacks, or 1⁄3 for a chikage-base Amalgamated Skies. A bloodied chikage deals an additional 3⁄4 of the character's own max HP as damage, or half as much if the target has poison resistance while bloodied. Additionally, chikage will deal 1⁄2 of the character's total impurity score +1⁄2 as flat bonus damage against unholy-hating monsters when cursed, or 1⁄5 +2⁄5 for a chikage-base Amalgamated skies. Every turn a bloodied chikage is wielded, 1 hit point is lost, and an additional point for every 120 maximum hit points above 235, or twice as many with intrinsic poison resistance. This effect is cumulative when two-weaponing chikages.
It is a hand-and-a-half weapon, gaining a 1.5x strength bonus of +12 at 25 strength, +1⁄2 impurity. The chikage will revert from its bloodied state when not wielded for 1 turn or when dipped into a forge and has any erosion it previously had fixed.
Depending on the character's insight and impurity, a type of poison is applied to the chikage while bloodied:
- Below 20 insight, it counts as poisoned
- With 20 insight and with at least 10 impurity, it counts as filth-crusted
- With 50 insight and above and while at an HP total below 2 × impurity100, it counts as dire-poisoned
Like the rakuyo, the chikage gains blood-slashes at higher insight levels, but these are only carried out when force-fighting in a specified direction:
- At 20 insight, the chikage gains one blood-slash
- At 36 insight, the chikage a second blood-slash
Blood-slashes have a range of 2 squares and count as rotted blood-poisoned phasing attacks that deal half of the character's impurity as additional damage.
For lawful yuki-onna Kensei, the chikage may be used as their special weapon. Samurai may perform shattering blows with a wielded mainhand chikage.
Origins
The chikage appears in the 2015 game Bloodborne, where it is an ornamental katana wielded by the Cainhurst knights. dNetHack's Chikage is similarly a weapon imbued by the power of blood, and shares the rust-red ornamental appearance of two other Cainhurst and Cainhurst-inspired weapons: the evelyn and the shanta-pata. As insight rises, the sword it shares some characteristics seen in the rakuyo.

Encyclopedia
When the intricate, rippled engraving that spans a chikage's blade
is imbrued with blood, the sword sings in scarlet hues.
However, the rite eats away at the wielder's very essence.
