An elven lance is a type of lance that appears in dNetHack, notnotdNetHack, and notnotdNetHack. It is a large piercing weapon that has a base-material of wood. It appears as a runed lance when unidentified.

The Rod of the Elvish Lords is an artifact elven mace, that can be re-shaped into an elven lance, as well as various other elven weapons.

Generation

Elven lances do not randomly generate, but may be wished for.

A wrathful mithril elven lance is randomly placed on the Mordor Ruins Quest level, with 2 additional ones being placed with a 35 (60%) chance.

A wrathful mithril elven lance is generated on the locate level of the Kensei quest for elven Kensei.

Poltergeists created by rage-walkers have a 18 chance of being generated wielding a cursed iron elven lance that has a minimum enchantment of +3.

A treesinger with access to a tree and a mithril smith with access to a forge are capable of creating an elven lance made of wood or mithril (respectively) for a paying hero, or free of charge if tamed.

Elven lances have a base 122 chance of being generated inside the chest within magic item vaults that appear in the Avatar of Lolth's lair, if it appears as the second Abyss level. These elven lances have a high chance of being generated with high enchantment and additional object properties.

Description

At Skilled and Expert skill, elven lances gain the stop thrust, braced, penetrate armor, lunge, and bladesong expert traits.

When used to joust, elven lances are significantly less likely to break.

All elven heros start the game with knowledge of the elven mace's identified appearance, except elven Madpeople.

Orcish and elven Madpeople will remember the identified appearance of elven lances upon opening their quest box.

As an elven weapon, elven lances have low chances of being generated with a base-material other than wood.
