A sensor pack is a type of chargeable magic tool that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is a tiny-sized tool that has a base material of plastic and is considered a futuristic item. It appears as a "rigid box" when unidentified.
Generation
Anachrononauts start the game with knowledge of the sensor pack's identified appearance. Sensor packs are normally generated with 21–26 charges.
Elf Anachrononauts start each game with an uncursed sensor pack with 25 charges.
Several quest levels can generate sensor packs:
- 1 sensor pack may be generated in the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest locate levels with a 3⁄10 chance.
- 1 sensor pack is generated in the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest goal levels, which may be embedded in the walls.
- 1 sensor pack is generated on Anachrononaut quest and Android quest "filler B" levels with a 3⁄5.
Sensor packs are not randomly generated and cannot be wished for by a hero that isn't a Tourist, though they may still be found in bones.
Description
A hero applying a sensor pack will be prompted to do one of the following:
- "Scan for creatures": Detects nearby monsters. Analogous to the effects of quaffing a potion of monster detection of the same beautitude as the sensor pack.
- "Scan for secret doors": Detects nearby hidden doors, secret passages, invisible, cloaked and hidden monsters. Analogous to the effects of zapping a wand of secret door detection.
- "Scan for objects": Detects nearby objects. Analogous to the effects of quaffing a potion of object detection of the same beautitude as the sensor pack.
- "Focused probe": Probes a single adjacent square, monster, or container. Analogous to the effects of zapping a wand of probing.
- "Survey terrain": Maps nearby are. Analogous to the effects of casting the clairvoyance spell.
Recharging a sensor pack has different effects based on the beautitude of the charging source: blessed charging sets charges to 25, cursed charging sets charges to 0 and uncursed charging sets the charges to a number between 12 and 23.
