The oracle is a unique monster and the "Oracle Room" is a dungeon feature. So The Oracle is both. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PraetorFenix (talkcontribs) 19 June 2006

level features

Can the oracle level have a shop? A temple? Another type of special room? I have never seen any of it. However, as I read the source code, it should be possible. -Tjr 14:21, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

  • In vanilla level may not contain more than one special room (I am not sure whatever oracle counts as one) Bulwersator (talk) 06:11, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
Not possible - the Oracle level comes from Oracle.des, where all the other rooms are "ordinary". --paxed (talk) 06:17, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Zot

Anyone know what this is a reference to? --AileTheAlien 01:04, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

The Internet Oracle answers queries in a humorous manner. After too many jackasses asked it "How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood", it started ZOTting such questions. --Darth l33t 02:23, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Sometimes only four rooms

Article says there are five rooms surrounding the central Oracle room. However, sometimes I see only four rooms. I just checked the Oracle level in my current game with a spell of magic mapping, and there are definitely only four rooms. I am playing nethack 3.6.7 on NAO.

Perhaps the "five rooms" was true for an earlier version than 3.6.7?

Most likely - this is one of the outdated articles I have earmarked for a "proper" pass. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 21:56, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
Some more reports from #nethack. Umbire said that oracle.des in 3.6.7 and 3.4.3 definitely has five rooms. Paxed said: "because the other rooms on the oracle level are completely random, when there's no more room on the level, it just won't generate the rest of the room." So the current state of the article is good. Furey (talk) 17:03, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

Disambiguation

I'm going to be disambiguating this into a level article and monster article shortly - it seems a fair bit overdue, and there's already several other disambiguations. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 11:39, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Move's done - split the messages evenly as well. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 16:53, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
