A woolly mammoth, q, is a type of monster that appears in EvilHack and Hack'EM. The woolly mammoth is a strong, herbivorous quadruped animal that is thick-skinned, can be seen via infravision and can go berserk if it is at 1⁄3 of its HP or less. A woolly mammoth can have a saddle and barding applied to it, and is the only eligible steed that a giant hero is capable of riding.
A woolly mammoth has a strong butting attack that uses its tusks, a bearhug attack that uses its trunk, and another strong butting attack that can send its target flying. Woolly mammoths possess cold resistance.

Normally-created woolly mammoths are always generated as hostile.
EvilHack
In EvilHack, woolly mammoths are only randomly generated in the Ice Queen's Realm.
A woolly mammoth is generated in front of the castle doors on the bottom floor of the Ice Queen's Realm during level creation, and another is placed in the lower-left corner of the treasure zoo leading to Kathryn the Ice Queen's room. They may also be generated in the treasure zoos inside the Ice Queen's dwelling.
Hostile woolly mammoths can be generated by the summon nasties monster spell if it is cast in the Ice Queen's Realm.
A frost giant that is created in the Ice Queen's Realm has a 1⁄5 chance of generating with a saddled woolly mammoth as their steed.
A woolly mammoth is among the sleeping steeds that are generated within the stables on the ground floor of the Wizard's Tower during level creation.

Strategy
Woolly mammoths are physical powerhouses among their monster class, and they are the strongest quadrupeds that appear in EvilHack. Their butting attacks and prehensile trunk can crush unwary heroes in a matter of turns, no matter how physically strong that hero may be.
A somewhat common strategy for the Astral Plane known as "woolly rain" involves using a cursed scroll of genocide to generate woolly mammoths, then using them to clear out various monsters, similar to the "purple rain" strategy involving purple worms.
