Ring of see invisible
A ring of see invisible is a type of ring that appears in NetHack.

Generation
Wizards may be given a ring of see invisible as one of the two random rings in their starting inventory.[1]
General stores and jewelers shops can sell rings of see invisible.
Description
While worn, the ring of see invisible grants the see invisible extrinsic property, allowing the hero to see invisible monsters. The ring is auto-identified if worn while the hero is invisible.
A hero eating the ring has a 1⁄3 chance of successfully absorbing its magic and gaining intrinsic see invisible. Monsters will not wear this ring.
Strategy
The ring of see invisible can be useful to tide a hero over and detect invisible monsters until they find a source of telepathy or warning, or until they can gain the see invisible property permanently from another source (e.g. identify and bless a potion of see invisible before quaffing, or else eat a stalker corpse or tin while invisible).
Wearing the ring of see invisible constantly may not be necessary—for example, the hero can put the ring on any time they suspect that an invisible monster is approaching, or else when a hostile spellcaster casts disappear. Be careful wearing unidentified rings around shopkeepers and other peaceful monsters, since they will cast disappear or use any invisibility items they have on hand while you have the property, however temporarily.
Identification
As with most rings, dropping a ring of see invisible down a sink will produce a distinct message, making it useful for testing duplicate rings. Additionally, price identification can be useful to sort through most 150zm rings, since they are mostly safe to wear and a ring of see invisible will auto-identify if an invisible hero wears it - while this does not occur for known invisible monsters, it can still be useful to informally identify the ring if you have a wand of make invisible to zap at a weak hostile monster.
History
The ring of see invisible first appears in Hack 1.21 and Hack for PDP-11, which are based on Jay Fenlason's Hack, and is included in the initial item list for Hack 1.0.
Messages
- You see some air in the sink.

- You put on a ring of see invisible while you were invisible, auto-identifying the ring.
Variants
