Veggy is a material type in NetHack, used by some comestibles.
These comestibles are veggy:[1]
- apple, orange, pear, melon, banana, carrot
- slime mold, including paddle cactus and dwarven root
- kelp frond, eucalyptus leaf, spring of wolfsbane, clove of garlic
- lembas wafer, cram ration, food ration, K-ration, C-ration
- lump of royal jelly (non-vegan), cream pie (non-vegan), candy bar (non-vegan), fortune cookie (non-vegan), pancake (non-vegan)
Eating any veggy item is compatible with the vegetarian conduct.
Most veggy items are compatible with the vegan conduct, but some are not.[2]
Strategy
Throwing a veggy item to an herbivorous domestic animal will pacify or tame it, and throwing a veggy item to a carnivorous domestic animal will pacify it.
Monks and others who observe vegetarian or vegan conduct prize veggy items. So do knights who wish to keep their horses well fed.
