A double sword is a type of weapon that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is a melee weapon whose default size is huge, making it two-handed for a medium-size hero, and it uses the quarterstaff skill despite its name. The double staff has a base material of iron.
The double sword is the base item for the artifact Esscooahlipboourrr.
Generation
Double swords are incredibly rare and make up 1⁄1000 (0.1%) of all randomly-generated weapons found on the floor, as death drops, or in shops. General stores, antique weapon outlets and used armor dealerships can stock double swords.
Description
The double sword deals slashing and piercing damage, and has the same damage dice as a normal long sword.
A hero or monster wielding a double sword will always attack twice, and swinging a double sword costs an additional 1⁄4 of their normal movement points (e.g. monsters with 12 movement points use 3 more).
