- This article is about the monster in dNetHack and notdNetHack. For the monster in NetHack and its female counterpart in other variants, see elf-lord.
An elf-lady, @, is a type of monster that appears in dNetHack and notdNetHack. Elf-ladies are female counterparts to elf-lords that have somewhat distinct traits: they possess much fewer and weaker physical attacks and lack the ability to twoweapon, but have the ability to cast monster spells.
Eating an elf-lady corpse or tin can confer temporary sleep resistance.
Generation
Randomly-generated elf-ladies can appear in small groups. Female Woodland-elves, Green-elves and Grey-elves can grow up into elf-ladies, and elf-ladies can grow up into Elvenqueens.
An elf-lady may appear in the court of a randomly-generated throne room ruled by an Elvenking or Elvenqueen.
In the Mordor Ruins Quest, the River Ford level has a 3⁄4 chance of generating an elf-lady in the forest on the west side, and an elf-lady is among the group of elves generated on the west edge of the Elven Forest level, opposite a horde of Mordor orcs and other monsters led by a Nazgul.
