A swamp nymph, n, is a type of monster that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notdNetHack. The swamp nymph is an undead nymph that is humanoid and part-plant, and like many nymphs she is a fey creature. Swamp nymphs have third-level low-light vision, can sense all living creatures, can be seen via infravision or low light vision, and will collect items that they come across—seeing a swamp nymph can lower the hero's sanity. They cannot be made tame normally. All 10 points of a swamp nymph's AC are in the 'protection' category.
A swamp nymph has two claw attacks that can seduce targets and steal items from them like other nymphs, will attempt to cast one mage monster spell during each of her turns, and also has a passive attack that can only trigger when she is below half of her HP: in this state, each melee hit she takes has a 2⁄3 chance of causing her to instantly die and inflict illness on the attacker. Swamp nymphs possess drain resistance and death resistance like other undead, and are vulnerable to iron and silver.
Swamp nymphs can be warded by the Elder Elemental Eye at any level of reinforcement.
Generation
Swamp nymphs are only randomly generated in Gehennom, and are normally created hostile.
Swamp nymphs may appear in the court of a throne room ruled by a vampire lord, vampire lady or drow matron.
At least one swamp nymph is guaranteed to appear in the lair of Zuggtmoy, and two swamp nymphs named Surrarr and Nueate appear within rooms on each side of Mammon's throne room in Minauros. In one map each for the lairs of Malcanthet and Graz'zt, random nymphs can generate there upon their creation that will always be swamp nymphs due to generation rules.
Strategy
Swamp nymphs are among the more difficult nymphs to deal with, due to the combination of their spellcasting, item theft and ability to cause illness.

As a forest pathogen, a fungus can be very destructive. Its high destructiveness comes from the fact that, unlike most parasites, it doesn't need to moderate its growth in order to avoid killing its host, since it will continue to thrive on the dead material.
