For the remains of a dead player, see bones.

Bone is a material. Only ivory rings and horns (tooled, frost, fire, plenty and unicorn) are made of bone. Worm teeth are actually made of an undefined material[1] and thus can be burnt, whereas other bone objects are naturally fireproof. Polymorphing bone items might create a skeleton. Note that bone is not considered organic.

Variants

In the variants that implement object materials, bone items are typically more common, and bone armor can be attractive to spell-casters due to its magical conductivity and low weight. In particular, dNetHack and EvilHack exempt most bone shields from the crippling vanilla spellcasting penalty,[2] and xNetHack also has reduced penalty for non-metallic shields. However, these three variants make bone items flammable. Additionally, in xNetHack, EvilHack and SpliceHack, bone items can hit insubstantial monsters such as shades, although they don't get any bonus besides the weapon damage, unlike silver.
