In dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, the axiomatic object property attunes a weapon, piece of armor or other item that has the property to the lawful alignment, and also refers to the damage dealt by weapons and some types of armor with the property—the apodictic property is a lesser form of the axiomatic property that only occurs on weapons. Both properties are only displayed on fully-identified items.
Generation
Several monsters are generated with axiomatic items:
- King Arthur is always generated with an axiomatic long sword.
- The commander on the Anachrononaut quest and the parasitized commander on the Android quest are both generated with a gentlewoman's dress, either heeled boots or a pair of stilettos, and a pair of long gloves that are all axiomatic.
- Intoners always generate with a set of axiomatic equipment.
- Death knights generated in the future (i.e. the Anachrononaut and Android quests) are always given an axiomatic beamsword.
- Nessian pit fiends in hellish seals will generate with a set of axiomatic armor and weapons, minus their cloak.
Description
The exact qualities of axiomatic and apodictic items depend on the item type it is applied to:
- Axiomatic weapons use a weapon-specific property that deals bonus damage to non-lawful targets on each hit, equal to the weapon's base damage (which includes the base damage dice, enchantment, and any penalties for erosion). For example, a +0 axiomatic long sword that deals 7 damage against a small lawful monster before applying other bonuses will deal 14 damage to a small neutral or chaotic monster, assuming the same roll for base damage.
- This version of property can also occur on armor, but will only take effect if that armor is used in attacks, i.e. kicks with boots, bare-handed combat and martial arts attacks with gloves, and headbutt attacks with helms.
- Axiomatic armor grants twice the DR versus neutral and chaotic attackers, but only grants half the DR versus lawful attackers.
- Apodictic weapons simply deal +2d6 damage to non-lawful targets, and cannot occur on armor at all.
