Belt (dNetHack)
A belt is a type of object that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, and is represented by the left curly bracket, [.
Description
Introduced in dNetHack version 3.24.0, belts are a form of armor-like accessory that occupy their own slot in the inventory and are worn on the torso of a hero or monster's body, and can be put on via P and removed with R.
All belts have a weight of 15 and have a randomized appearance, and their glyph is colored brown, [, regardless of their actual material. As an object class, belts make up 1⁄50 (2%) of objects randomly generated on the ground, in random shops or as death drops within the main dungeon, and make up 3⁄50 (6%) of such objects in Gehennom.
List of belts
There are six different belt items that can be encountered:
| Name | Cost (zm) | Magical? | Base material | Prob (‰) | Appearance (pre-randomization) | Worn effects |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| belt of power | 50 | Yes | iron | ~16.67 | segmented belt | sets strength to 25 |
| belt of weakness | 50 | Yes | iron | ~16.67 | articulated belt | sets strength to 3, or sets it to 14 if strength would be set to 25 from another source |
| belt of carrying | 50 | Yes | bone | ~16.67 | braced belt | affects carrying capacity: +25% if blessed, +12.5% if uncursed, -25% if cursed |
| utility belt | 30 | No | leather | ~16.67 | bumpy belt | protects scrolls, potions and wands from damage by water, fire, cold, and shock |
| belt of weight | 30 | Yes | lead | ~16.67 | lumpy belt | adds 500 aum of weight |
| kidney belt | 1 | No | leather | ~16.67 | wide belt | treated as armor and can be enchanted; grants 1 base AC, 1 base DR and MC1 |
The probability of a particular belt generating is divided somewhat evenly across the six belt types. The type of base material that a given belt has is tied to its randomized appearance as listed above, e.g. a belt that appears as a braced belt will always be made of bone.
