Lead is a form of material that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack as part of its object materials system.

Description
Lead is a hard and metallic material that has 3⁄2 times the weight of iron. Items made of lead cost around half as much as their iron counterparts, and cannot be eroded. For weapons, being made of lead applies a +2 die size bonus for that weapon's base blunt damage, and applies a -2 die size penalty for piercing or slashing weapons—the penalties do not stack for a lead weapon that deals both piercing and slashing damage, though it can cancel out the bonus if the weapon deals blunt damage and either piercing or slashing damage.

- bullets
- shotgun shells
- belts with the randomized appearance of a "lumpy belt"
Object material ratios
The following items have a chance of being made of lead when generated randomly:
- Orcish items have a 1⁄50 chance (2%) of generating with lead as their material.
Locations of lead items
Items generated in the following locations are likely or even guaranteed to generate as made of lead:
- If the lair of Orcus is generated as the second Abyss level, the down stair where Orcus is generated will always have a lead chest that contains three wages of pride, three wages of sloth and 18 demon vault-eligible items.
Monster starting inventory
Items in the starting inventory of the following monsters are generated as lead:
- Civilian Plumach Rilmani have an effective 4⁄27 chance of being generated with a lead sickle.
