A baseball bat is a type of weapon that appears in SLASH'EM and SlashTHEM. It is a one-handed melee weapon that uses the club skill and is made of wood. In SlashTHEM, Samurai know the baseball bat as a jo.
The baseball bat is the base item for the artifact Bat from Hell.

Generation
In SLASH'EM, baseball bats are not randomly generated, though they can be wished for or found in bones.
In SlashTHEM, baseball bats make up 1⁄250 (0.4%) of all weapons randomly generated on the floor (including shops) or as death drops, and general stores, used armor dealerships and antique weapon outlets can stock baseball bats.
Description
Baseball bats deal 1d8 blunt damage versus small monsters and 1d6 blunt damage versus large monsters. Notably, they are excluded from the code in SLASH'EM that determines monster weapon preference, likely due to an oversight, so a monster in SLASH'EM will never wield an ordinary baseball bat (though they will wield the Bat from Hell). SlashTHEM corrects this and places baseball bats above the javelin and below the quarterstaff in terms of weapon preference.
Strategy
While baseball bats by themselves are superior among club weapons in SLASH'EM, they are also incredibly rare and will only occur in a bones file, usually one from a former hero that had the Bat from Hell and is discovered by another hero that generated the artifact prior to entering the level. Baseball bats are also inferior in damage output to other mainstay weapons such as long swords.
In SlashTHEM, baseball bats can be found randomly and serve as stellar club weapons, though a hero that wants to main a club weapon may favor metal clubs over them.
History
The baseball bat first appears in SLASH 6.
