Generation

Description

If an ethereal dervish is chatted to while wielding an artifact, it will offer to exchange it for the anti-clockwise metamorphosis thought. Doing so permanently removes the exchanged artifact from the game, and the ethereal dervish vanishes.

For roles with special invocation rituals, artifacts required for the invocation ritual cannot be exchanged as well, which includes The Pen of the Void, The Annulus, and The Silver Key. All artifacts that are guaranteed to generate in an alignment quest cannot be exchanged, such as the alignment keys and the Chaos Crystals. The artifacts of the Lords of the Abyss, the artifacts of the Lords of Nine, the artifacts of the Empyrial Lords, the Painting Fragment, the Key of Erebor and the three artifact spellbooks of secrets are similarly unable to be exchanged for the thought.

The anti-clockwise metamorphosis thought requires 20 insight to become active, and will revert to its inert state if the hero ever drops below this threshold. While it is active, the hero gains three additional movement points per turn.

Origin

The ethereal dervish is a monster that parallels the insight bath messengers present in the 2015 video game Bloodborne, who are inhabitants of the hunter's dream that will trade the hunter certain items in exchange for their insight. Anti-clockwise metamorphosis is one of a large set of Caryll runes that can be found throughout the game. Up to three of these symbols could be memorized with the help of a rune tool to increase their stamina. At higher tiers, the rune would increase stamina by larger amounts, with the highest tier rune increasing it by 20%. Its description states: "A secret symbol left by Caryll, runesmith of Byrgenwerth. The twisted cross means 'Metamorphosis.' Rotated anti-clockwise, this rune boosts stamina. The discovery of blood made their dream of evolution a reality, metamorphosis, and the excesses and deviation that followed, was only the beginning."
