Harbinger is an artifact that appears in EvilHack. It is unaligned, and its base item is an aklys made of steel.
Generation
Harbinger can only be created by combining Giantslayer and Keolewa at a forge—it cannot be wished for, and will revert to its base item if left in a bones file.
Description
While wielded, Harbinger has several effects: it grants knockback resistance and acid resistance, protects the wielder's inventory from acid damage, sets their strength to 25, warns them of giants, and angers any giants that see the weapon being wielded—giant heroes cannot wield Harbinger and are always blasted when touching it, while giant shopkeepers that see a hero wielding Harbinger will bar that hero from their shop. As a weapon, Harbinger has +1d8 to-hit and +1d8 acid damage against monsters that lack acid resistance, with a 1⁄6 chance of creating acidic explosions on each hit that deal 6d6 damage, and it also has a chance of instantly killing giants that it hits like Giantslayer does.
As an acidic weapon, Harbinger can dissolve iron bars on contact with them.
Encyclopedia entry
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the
way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our
God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill
shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and
the rough places plain: And the glory of the Lord shall be
revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of
the Lord hath spoken it.
