A seismic hammer is a type of charged blunt weapon-tool that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is a large weapon that is two-handed for a medium-sized wielder, has a base material of metal and is considered to be a futuristic item. It appears as a dull metallic hammer when unidentified.
Generation
Anachrononauts start the game with knowledge of the seismic hammer's identified appearance.
Dwarf Anachrononauts start each game with an uncursed +0 mithril seismic hammer.
Seismic hammers are not randomly generated and cannot be wished for by a hero that isn't a Tourist, though they may still be found in bones.
Description
Seismic hammers inflict slashing damage and have a -5 to-hit penalty. When uncharged, a seismic hammer deals 1d12 base damage against small monsters and 1d10 base damage against large monsters. If the seismic hammer is charged, it instead deals 1d36 against small monsters and 1d30 against large monsters. Additionally, for every point of enchantment the seismic hammer's damage is increased by another 1d3. For example, a +7 seismic hammer deals 1d33+7 / 1d31+7 when uncharged and 1d54+7 / 1d52+7 when charged. A seismic hammer of larger or smaller size has its base damage dice similarly modified, with the seismic hammer's base damage always being tripled when it is charged.
Seismic hammers can be applied to be used as a digging tool, draining 1 charge for every dug square, but taking only 2 turns to dig with. Unlike a pick-axe or dwarvish mattock, seismic hammers can dig through trees and iron bars as well — however they cannot cut through drawbridges like a lightsaber can. Digging down with a seismic hammer will create a hole on that square.
A seismic hammer is normally generated with 80 to 100 charges unless otherwise specified, and can be recharged any number of times. Recharging a seismic hammer has different effects based on the beautitude of the charging source: blessed charging sets charges to 100, cursed charging sets charges to 10 and uncursed charging sets the charges to a number between 80 and 99.
Monsters will not use or pick up a seismic hammer, preferring any weapon to the seismic hammer.
