Generation
Silver maces make up 3⁄250 (1.2%) of all weapons randomly generated on the ground, in general shops or as death drops. Used armor dealerships, weapons outlets and the black market can also stock silver maces.
Description
The silver mace has the same base damage as a mace, dealing 1d6+1 damage against small monsters and 1d6 damage against large ones before enchantments and bonuses—this includes the +1d20 damage dealt against silver-hating monsters. It is also 6 aum heavier than the mace, matching the pattern of other silver weapons being 20% heavier than their iron counterparts.
Strategy
The silver mace is among one of the weakest silver weapons available to a hero, with only the silver dagger having lower base damage: both the silver spear and silver short sword are somewhat better in comparison, being slightly weaker against small monsters but slightly stronger against large monsters. Silver maces are far from useless and can be serviceable weapons early on, but will still usually be exchanged for an artifact weapon at minimum—many roles capable of two weapon combat will prefer to offhand an artifact weapon or even a strong mundane weapon, with the silver long sword and silver saber among the best silver options for this purpose.
History
The silver mace first appears in NetHack Plus, and also appears in SLASH 6.
