Generation
An orcish short sword randomly generated on the ground (including in a shop) or as a death drop has a base 1⁄20 chance of being made into an artifact, which has a 1⁄2 chance of being made into Slow Blade if no artifact orcish short swords have been generated.
Slow Blade can be given to any chaotic hero as a sacrifice gift.
Slow Blade is one of the artifacts that can be created by Duri at The Forge, with a base price of 700 zm.
Description
Slow Blade has +2 to-hit and +9 damage bonuses against all monsters.
Strategy
Slow Blade is the opposite of Quick Blade, both in terms of base item and bonuses as well as its alignment. As a result, its base item is weaker against small monsters, and its to-hit bonus is negligible—but its flat damage boost is quite strong, rivaling the bonuses of artifacts such as Snickersnee and even Doomblade (when the latter does not land its 1⁄4 chance of +1d4*5 damage): the to-hit bonus may be just enough to make a difference for a chaotic hero in the early game and give it slightly more longevity once the hero progresses beyond that point.
History
Slow Blade first appears in SlashTHEM as the quest artifact of the Acid Mage—the artifact was redesigned into the counterpart to Quick Blade and swapped for a new artifact, The Flute of Slime.
