The Lyre of Orpheus is the Bard quest artifact in SlashTHEM, where it is completely unchanged from the initial Bard patch, and it is the prize for completing the Bard quest. Its default alignment is neutral, and its base item type is a wooden harp.
Generation
The Lyre of Orpheus is not randomly generated, though it can be wished for or found in bones.
For Bards, the blessed Lyre of Orpheus is always generated on the Bard quest goal level, where it is placed near the center of the open area during level creation. If a Bard loads a bones level containing their quest artifact, it will always revert to its base item.
Description
While carried, The Lyre of Orpheus grants magic resistance. Applying The Lyre of Orpheus can play music or improvise as with a normal wooden harp, and it can be used to play any song for the musicalize spell skill. Invoking The Lyre of Orpheus behaves the same as reading an uncursed scroll of taming, with a chance of taming monsters adjacent to the hero.
Applying or invoking The Lyre also gives a random rumor dependent on its beatitude: the rumor will be true if The Lyre is blessed, false if cursed, and can be either if uncursed.
