Xiuhcoatl is an artifact that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is lawful and favors Archeologists, and its base item type is a dragonhide bullwhip special-cased to appear as serpenthide—Xiuhcoatl also has an atlatl form made of wood.

Generation

Xiuhcoatl is the first guaranteed sacrifice gift for Archeologists, and lawful heroes may receive it as a sacrifice gift.

Description

Xiuhcoatl has improved damage dice over both of its base items, dealing 1d2+2d4 damage to all monsters.

While wielded in bullwhip form, Xiuhcoatl grants fire resistance and has +1d3 to-hit and +1d12 fire damage bonuses against monsters without fire resistance. Invoking Xiuhcoatl in bullwhip form will switch it to atlatl form without setting a cooldown timer.

While wielded in atlatl form, Xiuhcoatl grants fire resistance and has +1d3 to-hit and +1d12 fire damage bonuses when firing javelins at monsters without fire resistance—javelins fired from Xiuhcoatl additionally have a doubled strength bonus applied, and have no maximum range. Invoking Xiuhcoatl in atlatl form will switch it to bullwhip form without setting a timer, and can optionally be used to generate javelins for the atlatl, which applies a cooldown timer for the effect.
