描述
和其他容器一样，冰盒子的主要作用是存放物品，且可以保护装入的物品不受到火焰、寒冷、电击和取消的影响。此外，它还可以保护装入的物品不受潮湿的影响。冰盒子被沉入熔岩时不会被摧毁，因此也能保护存入的物品不受熔岩影响[3]。
冰盒子拥有一项独特的功能：放入其中的尸体和蛋不会随时间流逝变质或复生，但是，蛋的孵化计时仍然会正常进行，且若达到孵化时机时仍存放在容器中便会失活。
策略
冰盒子重达900 aum，因此并不适合用作随身携带的容器，但非常适合用于贮藏物品。由于由塑料制成，冰盒子不会被黏胶立方怪吃掉，因此比起箱子和大盒子能更好保护里面的物品。冰盒子的尸体保鲜功能也可以用于保存怪物尸体以备未来食用或献祭。
有些玩家会在飞升前准备一个装有大量酒和食物的冰盒子，这一娱乐行为被称为“半神酒吧”。
历史

SLASH'EM
In SLASH'EM, frozen food stores have a 9⁄10 chance of generating an ice box on a given square.[5]
An ice box is always generated in Frankenstein's Lab, where it is placed on Doctor Frankenstein's square at level creation.
Upgrading an ice box successfully will produce a chest, and vice versa.

UnNetHack
In UnNetHack, an ice box is generated on the last floor of the Ruins of Moria branch at level creation—the "intact" map always places the ice box in one of the chest caches of the altar room, while the "ruined" map only has a 3⁄4 chance of placing the ice box.
dNetHack
In dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, the Convict quest locate level places an ice box in the warden's office at level creation that has four random eggs, two honeycombs, an apple, a pear, and a cream pie inside.
