A warhorse, u, is a type of monster that appears in NetHack. The warhorse is a strong and herbivorous domestic animal that can be seen via infravision and has a tendency to wander, and is the strongest of the unicorn or horse monster class. Warhorses can be tamed with veggy food such as pears or lichen corpses, and consider carrots and apples treats.
A warhorse has a kick attack and a bite attack.

Generation
Warhorses may be generated as peaceful towards neutral characters. A horse can grow up into a warhorse.
Warhorses have a 1⁄100 chance of generating with a worn saddle.[1]
The following information pertains to an upcoming version (3.7.0). If this version is now released, please verify that it is still accurate, then update the page to incorporate this information.
Per commit a1d5464, the Knight quest home level will generate some saddled warhorses at level creation.Strategy
Warhorses are the fastest among horses at 24 speed, which augments their damage-dealing capabilities - as with the other domestic horses, characters should be ready pacify a hostile horse quickly with non-tripe rations if they do not want to tame or fight it, especially weaker characters that for example stumble upon a former pet warhorse in bones. Warhorse corpses also do not penalize characters for eating them, making them a decent meaty source of nutrition.
As pets
Pet warhorses are tied with unicorns for the fastest eligible steeds, and their increased level cap allows strong enough ones to attack shopkeepers and aligned priests, which is often an unfavorable matchup for the pet despite their speed. A character that does not want to risk their warhorse's life while not riding should keep them away from shops and temples, locking them in a nearby room if necessary. In terms of food, warhorse maintenance is the same as with ponies, with the sole difference being a slight decrease in ability to retain nutrition from their size[2] - chat with a pet warhorse or use a stethoscope to determine if it is hungry, and see the article linked above for specific details on Knights and steed maintenance.
History
The warhorse first appears in NetHack 3.3.0.
