A dwarvish bearded axe is a type of weapon that appears in EvilHack and Hack'EM. Its base object material is iron, and it uses the axe skill. It appears as a broad bearded axe when unidentified.
A dwarvish bearded axe deals 1d8 damage versus small monsters and 1d10 versus large monsters, and you or a monster wielding it can apply the axe to disarm a target, similar to the bullwhip. The dwarvish bearded axe is the base item for the artifact weapon Dramborleg.
Generation
Dwarven Knights and Valkyries start each game with a dwarvish bearded axe instead of a long sword.
Normal dwarves may rarely be generated with a dwarvish bearded axe. Dwarven lieutenants have a 1⁄2 chance of being generated with a dwarvish bearded axe; dwarven captains, watch captains, and prison guards have a 3⁄4 chance of being generated with a dwarvish bearded axe.
A dwarvish bearded axe can be created at a forge by combining an axe and a dwarvish short sword.
Strategy
The dwarvish bearded axe's damage output is comparable to that of a standard long sword; this makes it far superior to the standard axe at the 'cost' of 10 more aum, and provides a solid option for roles that are either restricted in the long sword skill or else seeking a bit more variance in their builds. Melee roles such as the Barbarian that can reach Skilled or better in axes will appreciate a valuable early weapon - bearded axes of light material such as mithril also make good twoweaponing candidates for the primary slot, as well as a solid off-hand weapon once you reach Basic level.
