Generation
SLASH'EM, SlashTHEM and Hack'EM
Kroo is always generated on the special kobold level, with two random weapons, two random pieces of armor, two random potions, and a random wand on his square; his exact location varies with the map used for the kobold level.
Like other kobolds, Kroo is also generated with two sets of weapons: an orcish short sword (1⁄4 chance) or an orcish dagger (3⁄4 chance), and a stack of orcish spears (1⁄4 chance) or a stack of darts (3⁄4 chance).[1]
notdNetHack
In notdNetHack, Kroo the Kobold King is the boss of the Dismal Swamp adventure branch.
Strategy
SLASH'EM, SlashTHEM and Hack'EM
Kroo has a higher base level than any other kobold, but he is otherwise fairly unremarkable: his weapon attack does less damage than that of a kobold warrior, and he has the same low speed of 9 and pitiful 10 AC as most other kobolds. However, the items placed on his square can lead to some nasty surprises, and he has enough HP that he may get a few wand shots off before you can kill him.
Kroo is usually surrounded by a very large number of kobolds, which may warrant the use of anti-horde tactics (such as fighting them one-by-one in a corridor) to avoid being killed by sheer attrition; while this leaves you vulnerable to his wand(s), it also ensures that you can reliably zap him and his kobolds with your own wands.
History
Kroo the Kobold King first appears in NetHack-- 3.0.10, the earliest ancestor of SLASH'EM that is distinct from NetHack, and also appears in NetHack-- 3.1.3 and SLASH 6.
