A plain dress is a type of shirt that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. It is also known as a black dress, which is the item's former name and based on its default color. It has a default material of cloth and appears as a dress when unidentified.
Generation
Android women start the game with an uncursed +0 leather plain dress. Drow Binder women start the game with a stolen and uncursed +0 plain dress.
Plain dresses are not randomly generated normally, though they can be found in bones or wished for.
A noble's dress that is fully eroded from exposure to light will turn into a plain dress, due to the armored shadowsteel portions of the dress crumbling away.
Spa shops in Elshava can stock plain dresses.
Plain dresses can be generated in the magic item vaults that appear within the Avatar of Lolth's lair during level creation if it appears as the second Abyss level.
Some monsters can be generated with plain dresses:
- Yochlol are always generated with cursed and erosion-proofed +2 plain dresses fitted to their humanoid form, regardless of the form they are actually generated in.
- Drow novices are always generated with cursed and filth-encrusted +0 plain dresses.
- Eclavdra is always generated with a blessed and erosion-proofed +1 plain dress.
- Y-cultist matrons are always generated with plain dresses that are rotted and given an additional point of enchantment.
- Puppet-Empress Xedali is always generated with a +3 plain dress.
- Witches, apprentice witches and the coven leader are always generated with a plain dress.
- Servant women are always generated with plain dresses.
- Dancing duelist women are always generated with green plain dresses.
- Female Caillea Eladrin are always generated with black plain dresses that have the frosted and coldproof properties.
- Gynoids are always generated with plain dresses.
- Parasitized gynoids have a 2⁄9 chance of being generated with an armor set that includes a plain dress.
- Operators and parasitized operators have a rough and effective 1⁄3 chance of being generated with an armor set that includes a plain dress.
- Deminymphs that are generated with pseudonatural/anachrononaut kits have a 2⁄3 chance of being given a red flesh plain dress as their body armor that has an enchantment ranging from +1 to +3.
- Lilitu generated in Gehennom or else slated for good equipment have a 1⁄6 chance of generating with a cursed +4 plain dress.
- Mariliths that are created in the Mordor Ruins Quest and placed in areas outside of the forest, ford or fields during level creation are always generated with a plain dress.
- Killer bees generated on the Lawful Quest have a 1⁄3 chance of being generated with a plain dress if they do not generate with body armor.
- Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs created in the future (i.e. the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest) are generated with a cursed and thoroughly rotted +5 white plain dress. Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs created elsewhere are generated with a blessed and erosion-proofed +5 plain dress.
- The Good Neighbor is always generated with a plain dress.
- Parai are always generated with a plain dress.
- Player monster noblewomen that are slated for "good" equipment are given a plain dress.
Description
While worn, a plain dress grants 0 base AC, 0 DR and MC2. A hero wearing a plain dress gains a +1 bonus to charisma, with an additional enchantment-based bonus if they are not wearing body armor of any kind over it.
