Dokkalfar eternal matriarch
A dokkalfar eternal matriarch, L, is a type of monster that appears in dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack. The dokkalfar eternal matriarch is a strong, undead drow woman that is a lich and an overlord to her kind: she has infravision, darksight, enhanced regeneration, and the ability to tunnel through walls, and will seek out weapons, armor and magical items to pick up. Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs have 18 points of AC and 8 points of DR in the natural category.
The dokkalfar eternal matriarchs encountered in the dungeon normally belong to a lost drow house, and are generally not aggressive towards other undead—those that are generated in the future (i.e. the Anachrononaut quest and Android quest) serve the Black Web entity. A tame dokkalfar eternal matriarch may turn traitor.
A dokkalfar eternal matriarch has two powerful weapon attacks that can disenchant the target's worn armor or other equipment, a strong vampiric bite attack, a cold touch attack, and the ability to cast one mage monster spell during each of her turns. Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs have expert prowess in martial combat and a full base attack bonus of +1 to-hit per monster level, and they possess fire resistance, cold resistance, sleep resistance, shock resistance, poison resistance, stoning resistance, death resistance, drain resistance and a vulnerability to iron.
A dokkalfar eternal matriarch is poisonous to consume, which primarily comes up if she is digested by another monster or else is subjected to Ahazu (which circumvents hazardous effects from consuming a monster or their corpse). Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs can grant fire resistance or cold resistance when digested or otherwise consumed.
Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs can be warded by a Circle of Acheron or a fourfold-or-better Elder Elemental Eye.
Generation
Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs are often created hostile, and will not randomly generate in Gehennom. They are not a valid polymorph form.
A dokkalfar eternal matriarch that is generated in the main dungeon may be accompanied by drow matrons, hedrow warriors, hedrow zombies, and drow mummies, while a dokkalfar eternal matriarch that is generated in the future may be accompanied by embraced drowess groups, mind flayers, edderkops, hedrow zombies, and drow mummies.
Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs can appear as prisoners in the Castle throne room.
A dokkalfar eternal matriarch is generated with different items that have differing object materials depending on whether or not she appears in the main dungeon or the future.
- Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs created in the main dungeon or outside the future are generated with: a blessed +9 wrathful high-elven warsword that has a small chance of being mercurial, a blessed +9 black mithril set of droven plate mail bearing the symbol of their lost house, a blessed and erosion-proofed +5 plain dress, a black signet ring bearing the symbol of their lost house, a blessed and erosion-proofed +5 cloak of magic resistance, a blessed and erosion-proofed +5 black mithril droven helm, blessed and erosion-proofed +5 black mithril gauntlets of power, and blessed and erosion-proofed +3 black mithril armored boots.
- Dokkalfar eternal matriarchs created in the future are generated with: an unholy +9 wrathful faded shadowsteel droven greatsword, a cursed +9 shadowsteel set of droven plate mail bearing the Black Web's symbol, a cursed and thoroughly rotted +5 white plain dress, a cursed +5 magic-resistant droven cloak, a cursed +5 shadowsteel faceless helm, cursed +5 shadowsteel gauntlets of power, cursed +5 shadowsteel armored boots, and a chunk of fossil dark.
A dokkalfar eternal matriarch does not leave a corpse upon death.
Strategy
The dokkalfar eternal matriach is an infamously strong monster to encounter and face in combat: this naturally makes her an incredibly rare and desirable pet, as well as a potential loot target due to the high quality and enchantment of her gear.
Origin
The term "dokkalfar" is derived from the Dökkálfar of Norse mythology, also known as the Dark Elves. In the setting of dNetHack and its derivatives, the "dokkalfar" are the ancestral drow race as they existed prior to their subjugation by Lolth.
