Prisoner (dNetHack)

From NetHackWiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

In dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack, throne rooms may contain adjacent prison cells, with the monsters inside them serving as prisoners. These monsters are distinct from the generic prisoner monster that appears in NetHack and its variants (including dNetHack, notdNetHack and notnotdNetHack).

Generation

All throne room prisoners are generated unconscious, with only a set of shackles equipped—any normal monster starting inventory that those monsters would be created with normally are instead placed in the throne room's chest.

Description

The types of prisoners contained within a throne room depend entirely on the ruler of the throne room (who is always seated on the throne). Every throne room randomly placed within the dungeon is flavored as belonging to the forces of the Wizard of Yendor: this is the reason for throne room occupants always being generated hostile, as well as why throne rooms can have prisoners. This also partially explains why those prisoners may include those of monster types that are normally allied with or related to the ruler, existing alongside other reasons such as the conflicts between drow houses.

Lists of potential prisoners

A user has suggested improving this page or section as follows:

"Finish out these lists, including item specifications, and reformat it along the way if necessary. Tailor the notes about monsters with multiple entries in a slightly more elegant way that doesn't break references or whatever you elect to use."

Each throne room's potential prisoners are listed below and sorted by the type of throne room they can appear in—monsters that have a pair of parentheses next to their name have an increased chance of generating as a prisoner, with the parentheses generally containing the amount of times they are listed within the throne room data for a given throne room type. Prisoners that are too strong to generate normally for a hero or are much weaker than them will be re-rolled.

Generic prisoners

The following prisoners can appear in any throne room:
